Halcyon

The word 'Halcyon' originates from the Greek myth of Alcoyne and means marked by peace and prosperity or calmness.  In ancient Greek tradition, the Halcyon bird, commonly believed to resemble a Kingfisher, landed on choppy water, instantly calming the waves so that it could lay its eggs on a floating nest.  Legend has it that two weeks of calm weather then ensued at the winter solstice.  This legend reflects our belief that every water, no matter now stormy, can be calmed and that the calmness and tranquility once found, can be maintained.

Here at Halcyon, we work with our customers to provide a caring approach to illness.  We believe that all aspects of our customers' lives contribute to their health and wellbeing, and that each person has the potential to keep themselves happy and healthy.  

We recognise the impact coping with pain or negative emotion has on everyday living and we help and support our customers to reach and maintain physical and emotional balance.

How can we help?

Halcyon's principle therapist, Sarah, gained her first practitioner qualification in 2006 and since then has helped family and friends overcome many health problems, such as
  • chronic back pain;
  • frozen shoulder;
  • anxiety;
  • symptoms of menopause;
  • stress;
  • sleeplessness; 
  • bowel problems; 
  • pre-menstrual tension; and 
  • post-operative recuperation.

How we work

We use natural creams, oils and soaps that have not been tested on animals,  most of which are produced by Anam Cara, a small producer of natural cosmetics, based in Oswaldtwistle, East Lancs.  Those products we source from elsewhere come with the BUAV cruelty-free guarantee.

As a member of the UK Reiki Federation and the International College of Holistic Medicine, Sarah is bound by strict Codes of Ethics and continual professional development.
